Family of the Wa'a

Intro to Outrigger Canoeing

Interested in learning how to paddle this fall? On September 17th and 18^th Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club will be teaching an Introduction to Outrigger Canoeing course.  Offered through the Ventura College Community Education office, this exciting, hands-on program is the perfect opportunity for students to get actively immersed into one of the most unique and rewarding sports on the water.

Schedule:

September 17th – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM – Lecture on Hawaiian Outrigger Culture, Technique and Racing – Held at Ventura College Annex 4 (directions at the bottom of the page)

September 17th – 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM – Lunch on your own or with Hokuloa at Harbor Café

September 17th – 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM – On-the-water technique instruction (at Harbor Cove Beach in Ventura Harbor)

September 18th – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM – On-the-water technique instruction (at Harbor Cove Beach in Ventura Harbor)

Cost:

$69.00 for individuals or $89.000 for two people, paid through Ventura College Community Education

Marina Outrigger and the other rowing/paddling groups on Mother's Beach in Marina Del Rey are threatened by encroaching development.

The beach where our club Marina del Rey Outrigger in Los Angeles launches from is being surrounded by development. One particular development across the street will take over the existing parking with condos. Their proposal is to have additional parking a 1/4 mile away. This will affect not only our club, but many other rowers, kayakers, SUP's, and other recreational boaters, since this beach is the primary launch site for most of Los Angeles.
