2011 Parade of Lights

Here's Hokuloa's entry in the 2011 Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights. This year's theme, "California Dreaming'".

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Please plan on attending the St. Patrick's Day Parade and walking alongside our canoe, Saturday, March 12th!  Go to practice, grab a coffee, and meet on Santa Clara near the Museum (we'll be the one with the big boat!).  If you can't make it to practice, then meet us around 10:30.  Wear your Hokuloa jersey, carry your paddle, and I'll have green leis for us to wear.  Bring your friends and family to walk with us.  The bigger our group looks, the better our team and sport looks.  This is a great opportunity to show Ventura that we are a part of this community.  Again, please plan on walking with us!

New Paddler Open House

Please join us Saturday February 19th, 2011 at 11:00AM - 2:00PM for a special new members paddling session.

Hokuloa meets in Ventura Harbor, on Mother's Beach located at the end of Spinnaker Drive, in the sand parking lot just next to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center. Parking is free. For more information about learning to paddle and what to wear/bring visit our New Paddler page.

New Paddler Open House 9/18

Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club is now recruiting new paddlers for the 2011 racing season. Join us Saturday, September 18th from 10AM - 2PM for an open house. Meet other club members and enjoy paddling an outrigger canoe.

• We meet at the end of Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor near the National Park Visitors Center. Hokuloa's container and canoes (white and yellow) are near the harbor's beach area.
• Wear sunscreen and clothes that will keep you warm if wet (preferably synthetic fiber). Bring water.

Ventura Channel Challenge

Come to the 2010 Ventura Channel Challenge on June 5th and enjoy the seaside competition as Southern California's fastest growing sport comes to Ventura for its annual race. From San Diego to San Luis Obispo, outrigger canoe clubs will converge on ventura for an epic race just off the Ventura shoreline.

As always, tons of prizes will be raffled off including a beautiful hand-made outrigger canoe quilt, $1000 all-leather Lazy Boy recliner, Patagonia wetsuit, helicopter tickets to Catalina Island, Island Packers trips to the Channel Islands, exercise/paddle machine, Disneyland tickets, etc.

To top it all off, a Ventura favorite, Spencer Makenzie's Fish Company, will be with there with their unbeatable fish tacos and more.

33rd Annual Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights

 
The Ventura Harbor will warm up the holiday season with a Tropical Tiki Party as it hosts the 33rd Annual Boat Parade of Lights & Fireworks display Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th at 7 PM.

Hokuloa will be paddling in the parade on Saturday night.

Hawaiian Concert - April 4th

Hula Halau O Puananiha'aheo in Ventura is halua is putting on a Hawaiian Concert on Saturday, April 4th at 2:00 pm. at the Ventura Center for Spiritual Living located at 101 S. Laurel St. 

If any of you are interested in attending, please let Pam know. Tickets are $20 pre-sale and $25 at the door. Children 10 and under are free.

Also, there are Slack Key and Ukulele Workshops from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the same location. Pre-registration is required for workshops.

Beginner Paddler Day

It rained a little heavier than expected for our Open House on the 7th.  Many thanks to those who braved the weather and joined us in spite of the wet!

To follow up this event, Hokuloa is hosting a Beginner Paddle Day on Saturday, February 21st at 8am.  Another opportunity for those interested in the sport of outrigger paddling to check it out without the pressure of hopping in on a regular practice, although you're welcome to join us anytime! 

The morning will consist of club information, instruction on the beach, and technique on the water.  We'll cap the morning with a BBQ lunch.  Fingers crossed by all for clear skies!

We're located in Ventura harbor on Harbor Cove Beach, at the very end of Spinnaker Drive (just across from the Channel Islands National Park headquarters).
