Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club is proud to present the 2012 Ventura Outrigger Challenge, Saturday June 9. Join us at the end of Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor for a celebration of all things ocean!
Bring the family and plan to spend the weekend! Of course we'll have outrigger canoe clubs from up and down the Southern California coast competing in long and short course events with bragging rights on the line, but this year is about more than the triumph of the win!
June 9, is the culmination of World Oceans Week and the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center will be hosting special live dive broadcasts. Take a virtual dive into the kelp forest off Anacapa Island and interact with diving park rangers to learn about how you can help conserve our coastal and ocean resources. We are an ocean sport afterall. What better way to give back?
And don't miss Dance with Aloha!, Hawaiian dancers. We'll have this celebration of dance immediately following the Ventura Outrigger Challenge awards ceremony. Who knows? You may learn a few new moves!
If that's not enough to peak your interest, join Ventura Harbor Village in a celebration of National Marina Day with displays on water safety, tours of harbor boats and nearby wildlife ponds, food tasting, and live music. These festivities will be held at the Village adjacent to the race site, near Andria's Seafood and Milano's Italian restaurants.
UPDATE! The NORTHBOUND Lanes of Highway 101 will be CLOSED at Seaward Ave starting Friday June 8 at 11:00 pm through Saturday June 9 at 7 am. IF you plan on traveling during these hours, expect some delay and use the alternate route to arrive at our race site.
